T Minus 6 Days

Mar. 24, 2017

It’s been an eventful couple of weeks. I’ve picked up a new sleeping pad and I am praying that it will hold up better than my last two. I’ve gotten my new Verizon phone and am very pleased with it so far. It’s super durable and water resistant, which is probably necessary for a klutz like me, and the coverage is amazing compared to Boost’s.

After a 24 hour bus ride, I made it to Dalton, GA and was picked up by sister’s husband. I’ve been bouncing between my Mom’s and my Sister’s as my start date approaches. It’s been great catching up and hanging out with my niece and nephews.

My mom and I drove up to Chilhowee Moutain and hiked over to the gorgeous Benton Falls. The woods were starting to fill in with green. Mountain Laurel and Rhododendrons were all around and along the water looked like something from a jungle. The falls looked like they had been carved into the cliffside, they were so picturesque. See, I got pictures!

I’ve just been getting all my supplies figured out and have gotten a rough idea of where I’ll be and where to resupply for the first 2 and a half weeks. It’s hard to estimate my miles when I’m unsure of the terrain but I figure I can do 15 miles/day, regardless. I’ll be headed out on Thursday the 30th to avoid the weekend crowd, especially since the ATC site has tons of people leaving on April 1st and 2nd. There’s just a few more things I need and then I’ll be ready to go!
